Bleach 637 see’s the real identity of Pernida to be the Soul King’s Left Arm, compared to Ukitake’s Kamikake. While Mayuri battles Mayuri, he gets even more giddy and happy to see that he can experiment on his left arm as much as he wants. While this goes on, Nemu notices that Mayuri could possibly have changed.
Bleach 637 begins as Mayuri notices that the drug he gave to Zaraki should have paralyzed him, but he’s shocked that he can still move his eyes. Nevertheless, he will go on ahead and improve Ashisogi Jizou’s power before stabbing him again. In the end, beside the enemy’s power, he also made him discover a way to improve Ashisogi Jizou, he feels gratitude towards him.
Ikkuka feels anger as Mayuri sent Zaraki against Pernida on purpose. He was curious about the enemy’s abilities and wanted to fight him alone, and Zaraki was in the way of that. Yumichika mentions that his captain is always the same, while Nemu mention that she hopes that he is, Yumichika asking what she means by this, she replies with just exactly what she said.
Mayuri mentions that thanks to Zaraki’s sacrifice, he was able to figure out how his powers work. He’s almost on the verge of crying because of this touching sacrifice, noble victories are always preceded by noble sacrifices. In other words, he should show some respect for this touching sacrifice by donating his own body for his experiments.
Pernida begins to get angry, his clock gets to rip apart and do so in the middle, we quickly see a hand pop out, with chains on them while having two eyes in the palm of that hand. Mayuri quickly notices that he reckons that this is the Soul King’s left arm. Pernida breaks the chains when the rest of the arm comes out from the back, it raises itself.
Ikkaku notices how it’s a massive arm, then asking if the Soul King was this big, while Mayuri mentions that he doesn’t know as he’s never met him. However, the reiatsu is almost the same as the one he sampled from Ukitake when he lost consciousness. If Ukitake had a contract with the Soul King’s right arm, it’s not weird that the left arm too would have its own existence somewhere.
It also has eyes on it, which matches the eyes on Ukitake’s Kamikake, Mayuri goes on to mention that he guesses that it might be wrong to call the left arm “one eye”, however Pernida jumps into action revealing more of its nerves by trying to attack Mayuri, whilst this happens, we see a balloon which appears and stretches out, when Pernida touches it, it hurts him.
Mayuri mentions that there is only one thing he doesn’t understand, why the Soul King’s left arm would be working for Yhwach. Nevertheless, compared to his happiness, that is nothing but a tiny issue. Pernida speaks its first words mentioning Happiness. Mayuri gets even more happy when he mentions what organs he must be using to speak, so many secrets to discover.
Mayuri explains to Ikkaku why he’s so happy right now by mentioning that he’s found a never-before-seen object to observe. It keeps on betraying and lifting his expectations. How could he not be as happy as he is now. Pernida feels the pain when Mayuri calls him Soul King’s left arm, he tells Mayuri that his name is Pernida! Bleach 637 ends here.
Pernida shows its true power, on top of which the hand and eyes have gained the ability to speak which reveals the truth about his appearance and name. Furthermore, it seems that Mayuri will have fun playing with Pernida. However, next week’s Bleach 638 will see a new development in the war.

Actually I think Nemu meant she is worried Mayuri will be too happy to realize his situation. Pernida is about to speak. Which means she is finally using the full power of The Compulsory. If the right arm of the Soul King Mimihagi, can be inside a Shinigami, Jushiro Ukitake, for over 2000 years, than its possible a Quincy, Pernida Parnkgjas, can be one with the left arm.

Yes I do. See Nemu would be happy if Mayuri is happy. She even told Uryu that whenever he escaped their battle almost dying. But here, she seems worried. Also, I think it’s obvious why the Left arm is in Yhwach’s side, because the being that is part of it is a Quincy, Pernida Parnkgjas.

Yup. If you look back at chapter 599, when the Elite Guard were introduced with Askin, you can see Pernida doesn’t even remotely resemble a hand like she does now. She looks average height and her hood isn’t huge like now. Its only when the Elite Guard defeated the Royal Guard is when Pernida changes. She not only looks shorter, but her head is bigger. I believe when she was fighting the Royal Guard, she began to transform from her humanoid Quincy appearance to this hand form.

There’s always Nemu for backup, Sunite-sensei. We’ve not seen anything about her abilities yet, and she doesn’t seem too worried about the present situation. When Mayuri smiles like that, we know someone’s in for some trouble. 😀

I have to agree with you about Mayuri smiling. But I just have a feeling Nemu is worried and Mayuri is going to lose. If he wins this, not only will he be an overpowered character, but we will know why because Kubo is biased about Mayuri. He has to lose for this war to get better. Plus I think Mayuri is so happy he is getting overconfident.

Why do you say Pernida is a “part” of the Left Arm? I was thinking that Pernida “is” the left arm, since Mayuri wondered why the Left Arm would be working for Yhwach.
The general theory I saw online is that Mimihagi represents healing/heaven while the Left Arm represents torture/hell. There’s even those chains from Hell’s Gate hanging from the fingers, which we last saw hundreds of chapters ago (somewhere around chapter 10-15, if I’m not wrong). It also makes sense, when you think about how they used to twist limbs as a form of torture. I think that’s where the phrase “drawn and quartered” originated from, where a person would be tied to a base and have his limbs compressed or ripped off by being pulled on all 4 sides.
Somehow, now I’m getting the feeling that the “Compulsory” doesn’t mean the compression ability, but the compulsion that Pernida should serve Yhwach, which might be a Schrift that Yhwach could have forced into Pernida. Since it’s the most unique Quincy (along with BG9, I guess), it would make sense for Yhwach to use a special method to recruit him/her/it (is it still a she? :P)
And it also had those two irises similar to Yhwach’s Almighty, so it might already be able to see into the future. Or Pernida might also be a bare Schrift without a host (like an Explode without using the host Bambietta, for example).
Mayuri looks way too happy too! Did you know, Mangapanda missed the first page this chapter? Mayuri “apologizes” to Zaraki about stabbing him in that page, while Zaraki looks on.

That’s a good possibility. Hell man what’s up? 😉 Well I believe Pernida is a Quincy that became one with the left arm. Her powers are from her soul, like all other Schrift. If the left arm is flash and blood, than The Compulsory is perfect. Plus I just noticed. You can make the letter C with your left hand, not the right. Kubo you are clever. Plus Pernida is about to speak, which means she is going to warp while speaking, the true The Compulsory.

I don’t personally believe Pernida is being forced by Yhwach to serve him. She has her own identity as Pernida Parnkgjas, Sternritter C The Compulsory, and member of the Elite Guard and a Schutzstaffel. Also yes I still consider Pernida female. Remember Mimihagi? It doesn’t have a gender, but we call it male. Pernida is the same way. Her name is still feminine, so her preference is female.

Ya it’s true. Actually the whole right arm male and left arm female isn’t out of nowhere. In Wiccan, the God and Goddess we worship are equal in power and wisdom. The god is the sun, his color is gold, he is the blade of the sword, and he is the right hand. The goddess is the moon, her color is silver, she is the sheath for the sword, and she is left hand. I like how Kubo is putting more Wiccan cultures into the Quincy.

It is the Soul Kings arm, but its name must be Pernida, its just same person, real name being Pernida maybe. And I don’t think he’s getting lazy, it seems like he’s got for a certain amount of progression, and it seems that he’s achieved it here. Plus theirs a lot of chatter in the last few chapters compared to previous ones.

I think there will soon be a chapter or story telling us what it all means, I think Kubo has done this on purpose. However, with Bleach there are a lot of things which aren’t explained in detail, and I’m fine with that. I think you just have to go with it without asking why it’s happened.

Okay thanks. Why do you think Yhwach didn’t consume the left arm himself. If he just leaves it like now, there’s a chance Aizen, Urahara or Mayuri might capture it or do something. It’s valuable & can be used against him (e.g. if someone else consumes it Yhwach prob won’t be able to foresee their movements & will lose).

That is actually a good theory, it’s possible but I think Yhwach is so powerful that he currently doesn’t care, he can fight anything and anyone with the power he has now. Plus he can foresee the future, so he can either prepare for it or just get out of where people are coming for him. Although if Aizen, Urahara or Mayuri get their hands on the arm’s power, then Yhwach might have a few problems facing the Shinigami’s.

That’s true about Pernida. Someone will try to capture her. But remember, she is a Schutzstaffel, so she isn’t weak. She’s incredibly powerful.

Well I honestly don’t see Mayuri or anyone capturing Pernida. But they can try. Sense Mayuri is definitely going to lose this fight, how will the information about Pernida be told to his allies? Also it is possible their are other limbs like Sunite said. The torso is basically the one that keeps balance, and Yhwach absorbed him.

Well the reason is because of her name. Pernida is a feminine name. I looked up the name Pernida, it’s mainly popular in Africa, and only women have that name. Plus when she was first introduced, you can tell she is the shortest Schutzstaffel, which makes sense cause women are naturally shorter than men. Plus, I doubt Kubo would have made all the Schutzstaffel male. If he made the Royal Guard have two women out of three men, than I think it’s possible for the Schutzstaffel to have one woman out of three men.

Could it be that Soul King’s body was split into four parts and put into different placed, Human World, Shinigami World, Quincy World and Hollow World? We’ve seen the Shinigami World = Mimihagi, Pernida being the Quincy World, Human and Hollow remaining…?

Dude, your on point with that one! Omg it’s so true. Jushiro has the right hand( Shinigami), Pernida has the left hand (Quincy) so that leaves the left and right foot left. But who could be for the Hollow and Human? The Human one I Can Only Guess Is Orihime. Sense her powers are that of a celestial being like the Soul King.

There are 5 main body parts, the Soul King’s torso was at the Soul King Palace, leaving the right and left foot as you mentioned. This might be a long shot, but could the Hogyoku be one? I know two were created by Urahara and Aizen, but later mixed into one (right?). Maybe the two that were created required some kind of special power, which could be part of the Soul King’s body? It’s known that Hogyoku itself had its own will and had the abilities to mix Hollow and Shinigami into one. It’s a long shot, but currently the only theory I have. What do you think?

The Hogyoku is a good theory. I know Kisuke and Aizen created it so they can became kinda a god like being. The whole hybrid Shinigami/Hollow does seem to fight with the Soul King sense he seems to be a mixed being like Ichigo and most likely Orihime. I’m not quite sure to be honest. I know Kisuke and Aizen know something about the Soul King. His multiple limbs seem to be mysterious, sense only Yhwach knows about them and Jushiro and Pernida. Ya the main body was the Soul King that Yhwach absorbed along with Mimihagi.

Hey guys dont forget kenpachi still there, wondering “what the fuck did mayuri do to me?” so i doubt mayuri will die, possibly get extremely injured but i doubt he will die. I also have a feeling Nemu will die senidng Mayuri on a rampage that will eventually lead to his defeat but then kenpachi might butt in and possibly.. possibly use his bankai.

I really believe theirs a reason why Zaraki is defeated so easily by Pernida. Because Kubo is saving him to fight much later. And I can only assume to fight Gerard Valkyrie, who hasn’t even ran into anyone.
