The episode begins with Soul Society investigating a surge of Hollow disappearances. Captain Mayuri suspects they are being completely erased and worries about the consequences. Meanwhile, two new Soul Reapers, Shino and Yuki, are sent to Karakura Town to patrol for Hollows. Shino is confident and experienced, while Yuki is nervous and doubts his abilities.

During their patrol, Yuki encounters a large Hollow and is forced to flee. He finds Shino defeated by even bigger Hollows. Before a Hollow can attack Yuki, Ichigo and his friends arrive to save them. Ichigo, Uryu, Sado, and Orihime quickly defeat the Hollows. Yuki is shocked by their strength and realizes Ichigo is the Substitute Soul Reaper he met earlier.

Back at Ichigo’s house, Yuki recovers while Shino remains unconscious. As they rest, a mysterious Quincy named Asguiaro Ebern crashes through the window. Ebern uses a Quincy Cross and Reishi Cannons, surprising Ichigo and Uryu. At the same time, Soul Society faces another threat. A group of masked individuals from the Wandenreich invade Captain Commander Yamamoto’s office and declare war. They kill Yamamoto’s lieutenant, Chojiro Sasakibe, and reveal they have a way to steal Soul Reapers’ Bankai.

Back in Karakura Town, Ebern challenges Ichigo to use his Bankai. Ichigo, unsure of Ebern’s motives, activates his Bankai, Tensa Zangetsu. However, Ebern activates a medallion that disrupts Ichigo’s Bankai. Despite the disruption, Ichigo manages to overpower Ebern with a Getsuga Tensho. Just as Ichigo prepares to question Ebern, the latter escapes using a Shadow, a technique unknown to Ichigo.

The episode ends with the Wandenreich returning to their base and reporting to their leader, Yhwach. Yhwach seems ruthless and demands peace, but cuts off Luders’ arm for arguing in his presence.
