DanMachi Review

DanMachi, an anime about an adventurer called Bell Cranel who becomes the unlikeliest of heroes within the city of Orario. The city posses a huge labyrinth in the underground which attracts a number of other adventurers. Dreams and desires become something achievable as Bell and his tiny Goddess Hestia begin their adventure. So let’s begin the DanMachi review.

Bell CranelThe story begins with Bell training as hard as he can to become the best adventurer ever, after becoming the child of a lonely goddess who is searching for followers, both work together to fulfill their goals. The overall story follows Bell, Hestia, Lili and Aiz. The story itself is very similar to what a gamer may go through. They’d want to power up and become stronger.

During this process, they train hard, fight monsters, gain experience and become a lot stronger, buy equipment which may aid in battles against monsters and so on. Bell’s motives and desires are positive, to become a hero and help her Goddess out. On top of which Bell is a high spirit kid who just wants to get stronger, so he does.

He has a crush on Aiz who is way above his league, however, she keeps on popping in and out of this series, helping him to get stronger as well as saving him from various situations. With Hestia, it gets very interesting, some may say that the series gets very harem, which I guess may add some hysterical  moments to the series. Hestia, even if you haven’t watched the series may have seen her around a few times in many of the popular series.

HestiaHer character has become popular for wearing nothing but a white small dress and boob string, a number of male and female cosplay have cosplayed as her to many different conventions. Some look quite disturbing. Nevertheless, the story itself is something which blends a mix of gaming and powering up, similar to Sword Art Online, to gods and goddesses.

On top of which an adventurer who wants to become the hero, so he desperately fights for what he believes in. So I guess mixing all these aspects, you’d get something similar to DanMachi.

The art, design and animations are spectacular, they’re somewhat standard based on what we see in different anime of this nature. The characters are quite lovable, Bell being who he is, a polite and positive individual, I guess he’s relate-able to some people and quickly attracts a lot of people.

The character of Lili in this series pissed me off quite a bit actually, I knew that she was somewhat in turmoil and that she had a bad past, she was involved in some dodgy story as she stole from adventurers, and as she became Bell’s supporter, a king hearted individual, when she betrayed him by stealing his money and knife, I was pretty pissed off. But I guess it all turned out okay as she’s now part of Hestia’s familia.

There’s not a lot more I can say, I like the idea of this anime, there aren’t many improvements I can give this series, although I’d like to watch more of this series and see what else can happen and what else the evil doers will do. The English name for this anime is “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” which is a very weird name for an anime, although I guess it relates to the relationship between Bell and Aiz. This was a pretty weird, but good series.

I score DanMachi:

7 out of 10

I’ve never heard of this anime before! Looks interesting and a fantasy adventure is always interesting. Sounds like the fanservice could be a bit much for me personally based on the looks of the show, but it could be good. Have you heard of Puella Magi Madoka Magica? I finally ended up seeing it (So good that I blasted through it in two days) and I have to say that it is one of the greatest anime of all time. I’m currently working on the review, but it’s going to be an incredibly long one since I’m discussing some of the themes of the show and why I enjoyed it so much. I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet.

Ohhh I’ll definitely have to read your review if you say it’s one of the best. And DanMachi is actually pretty good, it began this season, and ended a couple of days ago. I just had a quick google on that anime and seems like small girls using magic and what not to fight? I’m not really a massive fan of such little lolita looking girls, they just look weird to me. But based on your review, I will make up my mind then.
