Akira Toriyama, the creator of the popular Dragon Ball’s series, had an interview a couple of days ago where he revealed the names of Android 17 and Android 18. Akira reveals this information with some bonus material in volumes 4-6 of the new coloured editions of the Dragon Ball Z Cell Arc.
Android 17’s name is Lapis and Android’s 18 name is Lazuli.
Toriyama also reveals that Android 17 (Lapis) had become a park ranger at the nature preserve, he became attached to the job for showing no mercy to poachers, he is well paid in his job as well as is married to a zoologist with two adopted children. It’s interesting to see those names. I wonder if he had originally thought of them or if he just added them now due to fan demand. It just seems a little random to be honest. Still….it’s interesting, but I’ll likely continue to think of them as 17 and 18

I think a lot of fans will always think of them as 17 and 18. Although I’ve noticed that Akira, after such a long time, has been revealing things slowly, more and more, it’s as though he plans on rebooting the series and getting it back on top. There are a few other DBZ’s going on like Kai etc, but would be kool to see more.

I agree that it would be great if he gets back into the thick of things. I’ll admit that I have been deeply disappointed by his comments in the previous years. “Who’s Gero?” and other things that he said. Toriyama acted like he forgot most of the Cell Games and part of the Buu arc. I’m hoping that he’s had a chance to rewatch the anime through Kai and that’ll give him some inspiration. I definitely want that Battle of Gods sequel and I also want a new show. I’m definitely game for that!
