Naruto is known to be a brash, fun and carefree character that  is the main protagonist of the manga and anime. He is burdened with forlorn, darkness and literally a demon, Kurama. The artist thus decided to take a different route to what Naruto is represented as and make him look a lot more mature in the fan artwork above. 

The awesome artwork above was done by Eddy-Shinjuku who has done a magnificent job of creating such a wonderful image and the message he was going for, personally, I think has been brought out in such a wonderful image.
