Fullmetal Alchemist Live-Action Film Teaser

Seems like the age of Live-Action movies are here as Warner Bros Japan has been streaming two different trailers for Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist manga series. The Live-Action movie shows a young Edward and Alphonso attempt to bring their mother back to life using alchemy.

The first and second teaser for the live-action teasers can be seen below:

As seen in the trailers above, the film will open in Japanese theatre on the 1st of December. The director, Fumihiko Sori, mentions that “I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country.”

In regards to how the characters will be casted and played, the manga has non-Japanese ethnicity characters, Sori mentions “There will never be a scene in which a character says something that would identify him/her as Japanese.” The cast includes:

  • Ryōsuke Yamada as Edward Elric
  • Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell
  • Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang
  • Fumiyo Kohinata as General Hakuro
  • Ryuta Sato as Maes Hughes
    Misako Renbutsu as Riza Hawkeye
  • Natsuna as Maria Ross
  • Natsuki Harada as Gracia Hughes
  • Yo Oizumi as Shou Tucker
  • Jun Kunimura as Doctor Marco
  • Yasuko Matsuyuki as Lust
  • Kanata Hongou as Envy
  • Shinji Uchiyama as Gluttony
  • Kenjiro Ishimaru as Father Cornello

The film seems to tell the whole story, Ed will age up to the age of 20, while being originally 15 in the manga. Also seems like Alphonse will be rendered in the movie as a CG character.

So what are your thoughts on this? I’ve personally not fully watched FMA, but I know there are lots of fans of the anime, manga and now the movie. What are your opinions, be sure to comment down below.

I’m not sure about this working too well, but I hope that it’s good. I read FMA back when I was a kid so it’s been a long while. I need to give it a revisit at some point. I’d recommend reading it sometime, it’s a pretty good story.

I did begin watching the anime a while ago, got around to ep 10 or something, I really liked it, but at the time I was also starting and watching Bleach/Naruto. So I concentrated on those more, although I think I will get into it if I have nothing to watch. This season seems to be really good for fans.

That makes sense, Bleach/Naruto is already a pretty big project as it is. If you start watching it soon, I’d recommend Brotherhood over the original anime since it’s a more condensed/direct adaption of the manga

It’s a total remake. Think of it more as like the Hunter x Hunter shows. The first show got up to Arc 4, but then ended since it was caught up. Then in 2011 they redid the whole thing from the beginning and got up to Arc 7 this time. They’ll probably start over and do it again in a few years once the manga continues

I definitely recommend HXH as well. Easily one of the most intricate and engaging anime of all time. You’ll also notice that Naruto borrowed quite a few elements from it. The Forest of Death, The Sharingan, Uchiha, Akatsuki, etc.

That’s the one that I watch, actually. It has the real ending. The other one doesn’t have the real ending because the manga was still on-going when they made it. The anime had a different ending…… so when the manga ended, they had to redo the anime.

I hope the movie follows the original story line and not the brotherhood version. I feel the original was better written in terms of story and characterization. I also don’t care that Aisan actors will play traditionally Caucasian characters. I just hope they capture the character they potrayl well enough to convince me they are that said character.

From what I’ve read, seems like it’ll follow the Manga quite strictly. In terms of characters, we might have to wait a little longer for a third trailer showing this

There are two versions. The first is the 2003 anime version (this one I consider the best of the two.) And the second version is the brotherhood version.
