You may have noticed that there is no Bleach 594, Naruto 690 or One Piece 758 when it should have already been released. Well we are all waiting for the manga copies to get released in Japan, here I will explain, to the best of my knowledge, what is currently going on and why there was a clear disruption and delay on the raw and translated manga chapters.
To start off, I should explain that the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine gets released every Monday in Japan. It gets leaked on Wednesdays with RAW copies of the manga coming out on Monday or Tuesday. From then on, various websites such as MangaSteam and MangaPanda try and use these RAW copies to clean and translate the text to the best of their abilities.
However this week, we saw that there were no RAWs meaning that the magazine wasn’t shipped at the usual time expected. On top of this, there has been a clear piracy crackdown from the Japan company in order to prevent the leaked copies. Yonkou Productions of the Naruto subreddit also mentions that this may become a norm.
Aohige from the APforums mentions that the chapters will be delayed. Jump are apparently getting strict with earliness of shipping out manga magazines, both Jump Sunday and Jump Magazine are affected, of which many places that receive the weekly Jump early did not receive it.
Personally, I feel that this is a way of cracking down on all the piracy, and I do understand it. However there surely is a better way for them to do it. There has to be a better way of doing all this without causing delays. Nevertheless, what are you’re thoughts on this matter, it may cause a lot of rage however I guess it’s their manga and magazine after all. Comment down below telling me what you think.

I definitely agree that this is a good move on their part. Piracy isn’t cool and technically manga isn’t supposed to be released online except for on the official Jump site. That being said, this won’t actually stop it since people can still read the chapters, they’ll just have to wait. There really isn’t a permanent way to get rid of piracy, but completely taking down the popular sites like mangastream and the others would definitely strike a solid blow against online manga scanners. If they want to really stop piracy, then that’s a more effective method. Of course, it would mean that we would have to just look for the spoilers or wait until it’s in volume format.

Ya that isnt a solution. Alot of people are referred to sites like mangastream by friends and learn of manga through sites like that. I personally wouldnt have found out about manga if it wasnt for a friend showing me the site. That being said I purchase books and figures to support the mangas I like. I would pay for the vizmanga site if it was quicker putting out the manga. The main issue is that people are able to find random obscure manga they like from the free online sites and if you take them down so many small run non Shounen Jump lables wouldnt make it. Even though people read for free on the web there are people like me that contribute to mangas they like in some way shape or form. I would never have learned about Sun-Ken Rock or God of High School Ane Doki or Unbreakable Machine Doll. So take down a site lose fans, lose fans, lose an industry. I bet 95% of americans that read manga got started on a free site.

The thing is, you’re on the minority in that you buy the figures and purchase the books. A lot of people think of online manga sites as a way to save tons of money. They check out a lot of different manga titles and don’t bother to buy the volumes because they can always go back and read the older chapters online. I agree that it is regrettable that a lot of manga would never officially make it here, but it’s just the roll of the dice for them. I’m sure that Shaman King Flowers won’t be licensed anytime soon (if at all) and online is the only way to read it, but it’s still not helping the author. The Vizmanga site should definitely be more efficient and they need to work on it, but this move still makes a lot of sense from the corporate standpoint. Of course, it’s not very effective since we’ll still have the chapters online in a few days.

Neil Gaiman actually made a very good video about this sort of piracy. It’s like lending a book. I’ve lent books, movies, etc to my friends all the time. These are books/movies/etc that they would NEVER have bought otherwise, because they would have NEVER heard of it otherwise. Once they heard of it, if they like it enough to buy they will buy. Same with the manga. The only customers they are really losing here are the ones that wouldn’t have bought it in the first place. I learned of manga through these websites–if they didn’t exist, I would know nothing about them and I wouldn’t have bought them in the first place. I would never have been a customer otherwise. Sure, there are some fans who don’t buy because it is free online, but then some of that percentage wouldn’t have bought in the first place.

Definitely agree piracy is bad, however some good does come out of it, piracy has actually increased the fan base of all these popular manga’s to a world wide level. If they wanted to stop Mangasteam, which I believe had shut down for a while a while ago, they should just do the same thing and offer an official way of reading the manga’s online. Plus instead of buying the hard copies, electronic copies much sell much faster. They should also provide ad supported free mangas, similar to what crunchyroll does, but for manga’s. It’s a rough idea but still something.

Currently, I believe that Shonen Jump does put their manga online. The problem is that nobody reads it there because you have to pay a subscription fee. Anime is able to be officially aired online for free because they make a lot of money through ads and such. It’s a lot more difficult to have a manga online for free unless they were to place ad videos between the pages or something. It would be great if they could offer a free/official way to read the manga, but it may make them lose money.
Piracy has allowed new fans to get into the series, which is a good thing I suppose, but not if they aren’t buying the volumes. If they just read it online and decide that they don’t have the money to get all of the volumes, then the companies are really losing out. On Mangastream for example, they usually get over a thousand readers per chapter, maybe more. Out of those, I would guess that only 20-30% actually end up buying the volume. I’m sure that more would purchase it if there was no way to read it online without paying a subscription fee.

I guess however when someone becomes a fan, they usually read it and most times tell their friends about the show/manga and spread the word about the manga and series. I guess that 20-30% is still a lot because I’d say they’re the hardcore fans who are willing to support the series.
Well it’s Jump could always provide their series online in manga form where they’d force the viewer to watch a video or do something before they can access the manga to read. It might be unfair but they’d gain quite a bit of money that way too. Freemium is also a good idea.

I think that would be the best way to go about it. Have a video right before or during the chapter. It may be a little inconvenient, but it’ll give the company their money and then we’ll still get to read the manga right away. It’s a win win situation. The only ones who would lose out are the current fan scanners, but I’m sure that this is more of a hobby than a full time job for them anyway so hopefully it wouldn’t be too bad for anyone.

So, let me get this straight. This is an actual move to prevent piracy and not a simple delay. Shounen is trying to stop online scanning and as a result it wont be any inglish translations for the rest of the world who understands nothing about japaniess language. Wohoo, less fans for you shounen. If this will be their move thwn my only option will be to buy the volume every two years, thats the time it takes to be tranlsated and set to sell on my country…. Lol, I like the sarcasm in this episode, yes it’s due to all the piracy online and all the popular translation websites, but Shonen should just deal with this and not delay it for everyone.

You might be right, I just checked on Mangabird, the spoilers form One Piece 758 is out, and usually when you get the spoilers, the actual chapter comes out the next day.

Well just remember that these spoilers might just be predictive spoilers, they might be experienced with the way the author writes and just predicts, and ultimate are spoilers.

Ok piracy piracy piracy …what can I say about piracy? Well thing is technically piracy is illegal so everyone that participates in it should be thrown in jail (I meant to say prison but it’s not like I can magically go back in time and replace the word “jail” with “prison” …Oh well). That being said piracy may just increase sales of any particular manga. I know. I know. Before you start saying, “What? Piracy can increase sales? Are a fucking idiot?”, to you I say, “Don’t call me a ducking idiot. You can call me a fucking idiot though.” Well back to my point, piracy can help increase sales by allowing a reader to explore a manga and if said reader truly enjoys the manga then they can buy it. However, some snot nosed brats and/or bastards and sons of bitches, may take advantage of the free manga and never have to pay a single penny out of their pockets (fucking idiots (hey I just called somebody a fucking idiot)) because they just money grubbing bastards.

I live in South Africa and the only way I can my manga and anime is through the piracy website because we have no stores to buy anime and manga and I would love to support the franchise by buying manga and anime but buying anime and manga over the internet kills the experience of the otaku environment.
